BENTON – After 27 years, Lacey’s Family Restaurant finds its doors closed to diners for the foreseeable future.

Linda Lacey, owner of the restaurant said she backed away from the restaurant last year for health reasons. She leased the restaurant to another operator, but that did not work out.

“Right now, I am under a doctor’s care and can’t reopen myself,” Lacey said. “I might look into it in the future, but haven’t thought a lot about it. I’d like to remodel and put in a new floor before we lease it to another operator or go back myself.”

Lacey added if she leases to another operator, the restaurant would go forward with a new name.

Lacey started a restaurant in what is now Peking Chinese Restaurant in the Northgate Shopping Center 29 years ago, before moving to her present location.

“I remembered the first day we opened,” Lacey said. “It was our first Sunday. I expected a normal amount of customers, but the place filled up. It was amazing to me. Business in Benton has been very good. We’ve been very blessed.”

Lacey said her restaurant is a family business specializing in home cooking and seafood on the weekends. While opened, it offered breakfast, lunch and dinner.

“Through the years, I’ve had all six of my grandchildren working in the restaurant,” Lacey said. “Everyone of them went to college with help from Lacey’s. I was blessed to teach each of my grandchildren how to work and take care of their money so they could get an education and go on to a career.

Lacey said while she misses cooking, she misses her patrons the most.

“I love being around people, and have seen families grow up in the restaurant,” Lacey said. “Of course, there have been a few close friends we’ve lost in 27 years.”
