OWENSBORO – Taylor Meadows drove to the basket and scored with 14 seconds remaining to lift Marshall County to a 56-55 win over Owensboro at Red Devil Arena Saturday night.

Owensboro’s Desire DeGroot had given the Lady Devils a one-point lead on a basket with 26 seconds remaining and was fouled by Marshall County’s Alex Brown, but missed the free throw.

The Lady Marshals took a time-out with 20.8 seconds left and Meadows quickly saw a lane to the basket for the go-ahead score. Marshall County again called time-out, their final one, to set up their defense.

Owensboro, with no time outs remaining, got a three-point try by Tasha Golden that was no good, and Mariah McKenty rebounded for Marshall County to eliminate a put-back attempt as time ran out.

Meadows led the way for Marshall County with 15 points. Toni Fehrenbacher scored 14 and also pulled down 10 rebounds. McKenty was credited with 10 steals.

Jordan Crabtree hit for 15 for the Lady Devils before fouling out with 40 seconds remaining. Welsi Washington added 12 and DeGroot scored eight points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

The victory was the second one-point win of the season for the 3-1 Lady Marshals, who nipped Massac County 49-48 Nov. 30 in the Hoop Fest at Marshall County’s Reed Conder Gymnasium.

The Lady Marshals opened this week with a visit to Massac County in Metropolis, Ill., for a rematch with the Lady Patriots on Monday night.

Marshall is on the road tonight at Carlisle County. A home game on Friday against Fourth District rival Murray wraps up the Lady Marshal schedule before they depart for the St. Francis Merv Lopes Hoops Classic, a Christmas tournament in Honolulu, Hawaii.
