A semifinal clash between next-door neighbors Christian Fellowship of Briensburg and Marshall County of Draffenville is on tap tonight in the District 4 volleyball tournament at the Marshall County auxiliary gymnasium.
The match will be the second of the evening at 7 p.m. Top seed Community Christian Academy plays the winner of the Murray-Calloway County match from Monday night in the opener at 5:30.
CFS is 22-6 after winning the KCAC state tournament Saturday in Louisville. They defeated Portland Christian in the championship match after topping Beth Haven in their semifinal game. Both matches were 2-0 victories.
Coach Suzie Burnettt’s team won last year’s district title over Marshall County. They lost to Community Christian, which competed last year in District 3, in the second round of the Region 1 tournament.
The Lady Eagles won their 20th victory of the season in a straight-sets win over Ballard Memorial, Region 1’s winningest team with a 27-8 record, at Briensburg Thursday.
CFS won by scores of 28-26, 25-22 and 25-23, becoming only the third region opponent to defeat the Lady Bombers this year. Marshall County also defeated Ballard in straight sets, 25-19, 25-19 in a best-of-three match in the Apollo Invitational Aug. 11 in Owensboro.
Graves County, top seed in the District 3 tournament at Mayfield, also defeated the Lady Bombers.
Coach Dan Langhi’s Lady Marshals wrapped up regular season play with a visit to Caldwell County Tuesday. The Lady Tigers won 3-0 (25-17, 25-13, 25-12).
Marshall County takes a 16-18 record (5-5 in district play) into this week’s tournament.
