PADUCAH – Marshall County came up four strokes short in its bid to qualify for the state golf tournament, finishing third behind dominant St. Mary and runner-up Graves County.

The Marshals had a team score of 316 to Graves’ 316. St. Mary, with all four scoring players in the top 10 individually, won going away at 296.

The top two teams advance to state at Bowling Green next week.

Corey Lampley led the Marshals with a 76, finishing in a three-way tie for ninth place individually with Chad Behbehani of Heath and Stephen McGowan of Ballard Memorial.

Lampley’s effort was just short of good enough for him to make the cut and qualify for the state tourney as an individual. Travis Griffith, who qualified last year with a 76, shot 77 yesterday.
