BENTON — A Benton City Councilman announced he would move away from the city limits after December.

At Monday's meeting of the Benton City Council, Glen Brewer announced his effective resignation at the end of his current term of office.

“I've filed the paperwork to remove my name from November's ballot,” Brewer said at the meeting.

Tim York, Marshall County Clerk, said Brewer's departure leaves five Democrats and one Republican remaining in November's at-large race for six City Council seats.

Benton Mayor Steve Cary said he appreciated Brewer's service and wished him well.

“Glen's made a real contribution with the job he's done,” Martin W. Johnson, Benton city attorney, said.
