Mr. Ralph Smith, 85, of Calvert City, died May 9.

He served in the United States Army in World War II where he received a purple heart. He worked for many years as a maintenance worker at Airco Carbide and retired from GAF. He was a member of Altona Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Lois O. (Downs) Smith of Calvert City; three daughters, Nancy Shouse, of Morganfield, Chris Devine, of Grand Rivers, and Sue Lester, of Reidland; three sons, Paul Smith, of Benton, Kenny Smith, of Symsonia, and Tim Smith, of Queensland, Australia; one sister; Lavada Sledd, Grand Rivers; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents Tommie B. Smith and Susie (Russell) Smith; and one sister, Sara Jones.

Funeral services were held Sunday, May 12, in the Chapel of the Collier Funeral Home in Benton.

Bro. Roger Rice and Lynn Jones officiated.

Interment and military honors followed the service in the Marshall County Memory Gardens, Benton.
