James S. Tinsley, 84, of Symsonia, died April 23, at the Southgate Health Care Center in Metropolis, Ill.

He was a retired conductor for the Illinois Central Railroad. James attended Clarks River Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Doris M. Hays Tinsley; daughter, Teresa R. Ballew of St. Louis, Mo.; sons, Stanford F. Tinsley of Jackson, Tenn., and Bradford E. Tinsley of Corbin; brother, John Tinsley of Symsonia; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

James was preceded in death by three sisters, Martha Terrell, Elizabeth Hattings and Ann Hopper; and one brother, Robert Tinsley. His parents were Robert G. Tinsley and Anna Irene Mitchell Tinsley.

Funeral services were held April 26, at the Milner and Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with the Rev. Bruce Watts officiating. Burial followed in the Maplelawn Park Cemetery.
