The new signal was installed after an extensive traffic study of the area indicated traffic volume at the site was creating access issues for traffic on Commerce Street.
The City of Benton requested the study due to increased traffic on Commerce Street. Highway engineers found that the volume of traffic on KY 348/West 5th Street created substantial delays for traffic turning out of Commerce Street and Judicial Drive onto KY 348.
