DRAFFENVILLE – After a week off for spring break, the Marshall County tennis Marshals and Lady Marshals return to action with two home matches this week.

Reidland visits the MCHS courts this afternoon at 3:30 and Paducah Tilghman will be the opponent Thursday at 3:45.

Boys’ coach Ryan Marchetti is working with a team that has much less experience than the ages age school grades of some of his players would suggest.

Brandon Jones and John Morabito, for examples, are seniors who are playing competitive tennis for the first time.

“They have continually improved,” Marchetti said. “They play well together in doubles, and Brandon has played well enough to move up and play some better singles players also.”

Jones and Morabito are 2-2 in doubles play.

Huston Harrington and Russell Shanahan also have a 2-2 mark.

Tanner Johnson has a 3-1 record in singles play.

“Tanner is our senior who actually has some experience,” Marchetti said. “He played a great match at Murray, and he is continuing to get better.”

Harrington, another senior “rookie,” is also 3-1.

On the Lady Marshals’ side, Elizabeth Padgett (3-2, singles) and Jeanette Capuano-Shandra Sullivan (3-2, doubles) are the top performers.

Padgett is short on experience, but not because she’s late in picking up the game.

She is only a seventh grader.

“Elizabeth has played better and better this year, and she had a great win over a good player at Murray,” coach Todd Anderson said.

Anderson noted that Capuano and Sullivan are natural doubles partners.

“They are good friends, and it shows on the court,” he said.

The Marshals are 1-5 overall while the Lady Marshals are 2-4.
