MURRAY – Marshall County was slow in getting started offensively, but once the Lady Marshals got rolling, it was all over.

The Fourth District champions knocked off Lone Oak 52-28 in Saturday night’s First Region girls’ basketball tournament semifinals, advancing to Sunday afternoon’s championship game.

The Lady Marshals did not score until Allie York’s putback basket one second short of the halfway mark in the first period.

However, the Marshall defense was putting the clamps on Lone Oak, and York’s basket made it 3-2 at the 3:59 mark.

After the teams swapped the lead two more times, the Lady Marshals steadily pulled away. They led 12-5 at the first quarter stop, 29-10 at halftime and 39-16 after three periods.

Mariah McKenty and freshman Alyssa Barnard led the winners with 11 points each.

The Lady Marshals held Lone Oak’s leading scorer, Haley Boyd, to two points. Boyd averaged 13.9 points per game for the 20-14 Lady Flash.
