Marshals’ first foe is Graves

MURRAY – Fourth District championship trophies in hand already, Marshall County’s Marshals and Lady Marshals advanced to First Region tournament play this week.

The Lady Marshals were to face off against First District runner-up Hickman County Monday at the CFSB Center.

The Marshals will match up with the only region team to defeat them this year, Graves County, on Wednesday.

Girls’ first-round games were set for Monday and today, with semifinals on Friday and the championship game Saturday, March 3.

The winner advances to the Houchens Industries/KHSAA Girls Sweet Sixteen at Western Kentucky University’s E.A. Diddle Arena in Bowling Green March 7-10.

The boys play first-round games Wednesday and Thursday, with the semifinals on Monday, March 5, and the championship game on Tuesday, March 6.

The winner advances to the PNC/KHSAA Boys Sweet Sixteen at Rupp Arena in Lexington March 14-17.

The Lady Marshals, 24-8, met the Lady Falcons in the second game of Monday night’s session. In the opener, Graves County played Lone Oak.

In the other first-round game in the top half of the bracket, Graves County (18-14), winners of the Third District title 54-45 over Ballard Memorial, plays Second District runner-up Lone Oak (19-13).

Carlisle’s Lady Comets (17-9) meet Murray, 61-60 losers to Marshall County in the Fourth District title game and Paducah Tilghman plays Ballard.

Tilghman boasts the best record in the region at 27-5.
