On Wednesday February 22nd at 6:23 p.m. Deputy Dennis Lewis responded to a head on collision on Mayfield Highway. Savanah G. Wilkins 18, of Benton, was traveling east while Colins P. Kelly 43, of Kirksey was traveling west at the time of the collision. According to Colins, Wilkins crossed over the center line and hit him head on. Colins was unable to avoid the collision.

The investigation revealed that Wilkins may have been intoxicated at the time of the collision. Both subjects were taken to Marshall County Hospital by Marshall County EMS. Both parties were also transported via helicopter to Vanderbilt Hospital due to the severity of their injuries.

Wilkins was cited to court due to her injuries for Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence due to witness statement of the condition of the driver at the time of the incident. Wanton Endangerment 1st, Improper Registration Plate, Failure to Produce Insurance Card, Failure to Wear Seat Belt, Possession of Controlled Substance 3rd and Prescription Controlled Substance Not in Proper Container were also among her charges
