HOPKINSVILLE – Marshall County, clad in new blue road uniforms with orange trim, finished the regular season with a 62-41 win over Christian County, last year’s Kentucky state basketball tournament champions, in a Thursday night game on the Colonels’ home court.
The Marshals take a sparkling 27-2 record into the Fourth District tournament, which begins Monday at Murray High School.
Coach Gus Gillespie’s team, which won last year’s First Region championship and advanced to the second round of the Sweet Sixteen, finished the regular slate on a five-game winning streak after a 63-60 upset at Graves County.
The Marshals got 15 points and eight rebounds from Chase Clark, despite foul trouble that sent the junior to the bench for nearly a third of the game’s 32 minutes.
Cole Nelson and Austin Rentfrow added 11 points apiece.
C.J. Cotton scored 11 for the Colonels, 7-20.
