Due to rain in the forecast ahead of an approaching winter weather system, Kentucky Transportation Cabinet crews in District 1 headquartered at Paducah will not be pre-treating area highways today. However, they are preparing their equipment to be ready for immediate response as light snow showers and rain during the day change over to sleet and snow. The National Weather Service at Paducah has issued a winter weather advisory for the region from Noon, today, to 6:00 a.m., Tuesday.

Southern counties of the district are likely to get mostly rain. However, rain is likely to develop into sleet and snow across the more northern counties with accumulations of an inch or more overnight.

Crews do not pre-treat when rain precedes winter weather because the brine will be washed away by the rainfall.



The District 1 Snow & Ice Team will be evaluating an appropriate response level hour by hour based on changes in the forecast and road surface conditions as the winter precipitation develops.

Motorists are urged to slow down and be alert for changing road conditions. Motorists should get regular weather updates by monitoring area news media outlets.
