MAYFIELD – After a back-and-forth first quarter that saw the lead change hands eight times, Marshall County pulled steadily away to post a 54-42 victory over Graves County in a high school basketball game at Graves’ Eagles Nest Friday night.

The Lady Marshals took the lead for good at 14-13 on a three-point basket by Mariah McKenty with 1:18 left in the first period.

Graves tied it at 18-18 early in the second quarter, but another three-pointer by McKenty made it 21-18 and Graves never drew even again.

Allie York led the Lady Marshals with 13, followed by Taylor Meadows with 11. McKenty, who missed six games with an injured knee and returned to action this week, scored nine points.

Gracie Martin led the Lady Eagles, 13-12, with 16 points.

Marshall County faces Murray in a Fourth District showdown tonight at Reed Conder Gymnasium. The Lady Tigers are atop the district standings with a 17-6 overall record, 3-1 in district play. The Lady Marshals, 17-8 and 2-1, handed Murray its only league loss in a 53-49 win on the Lady Tigers’ home court Dec. 16.

Also in a three-way mix is Calloway County (17-7, 4-1), which owns wins over both Murray and Marshall County. Their one loss came against Murray at home Jan. 13.

The Lady Marshals play host to Calloway County Friday.

Complete details of the games will be in Tuesday’s edition of the Trib.
