DRAFFENVILLE – Marshall County’s swim team won overall honors in one meet and were runner-up in a second competition last week.
The quartet of Grant Park, David O’Rear, Austin Gordon, Paul Hudson took first place in the 400 free relay in both events. They won at Paducah with a school-record time of four minutes, 9.18 seconds, and were first at Madisonville with a 4:11.24 time.
The Paducah performance eclipsed the mark of 4:12.31 set in 2010 by Reed Stewart, Nolan Park, Ethan Walker and Josh Tilson.
Grant Park is the younger brother of Nolan Park.
The Marshals defeated Lone Oak for overall honors in the Tilghman Invitational meet at Paducah Athletic Club Monday, Jan. 16, and took second to Muhlenberg County in the Lairy Nofsinger Invitational at the Madisonville YMCA Friday.
At Paducah, the boys took first place with a 67-64 margin over Heath and the girls were second to Lone Oak, 84-58. The Marshals totaled 135 points overall to Lone Oak’s 97.
At Madisonville, Muhlenberg swept boys’ and girls’ competition to claim overall honors. Marshall County was second in boys’, girls’ and overall.
Park, Gordon, O’Rear and Hudson also won the 200 free relay at both meets and Jessica Anderson took first place in the 50-yard freestyle at both meets.
At Paducah, other individual first-place finishes were posted by Sarah Telle, 100 butterfly, and Austin Gordon, 100 backstroke.
At Madisonville, the foursome of Jessica Anderson, Sidney Jackson, Sarah Telle and Erika Darnell won both the 200 and 400 free relay
Individual wins were recorded by Sarah Telle, 100 free, and Grant Park, 100 free.
One more meet remains for coach Kevin Stephens’ Marshall County, today at 5 p.m. at Muhlenberg County.
The regular season is finished for coach Paulette Buckingham’s CFS team.
The regional meet is slated for Feb. 10-11 at Owensboro.
