PADUCAH – Several former Marshall County soccer standouts are playing for teams competing in the Premier Arena Soccer League (PASL-Premier), the developmental lague of Professional Arena Soccer League.
Paducah Premier and Futskils Fusion of Mayfield, which compete in the Midwest Division of PASL-Premier, play Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Paducah Regional Sports Plex on U.S. Highway 60 west.
Players on the Paducah team include Sam DeVore, a 2010 graduate of Marshall County High School, and Tyler McKenty, who graduates from MCHS this year.
McKenty recently signed a grant-in-aid to attend St. Catharine's College in Bardstown.
The Fusion roster includes a pair of DeVore's and McKenty’s former Marshals teammates, Patrick Flanary and Tanner Reed.
Premier and Fusion compete in the PASL-Premier Midwest Division. Other teams are the Louisville Rayo, Illinois Fire, Springfield Demize and Evansville Crush.
Premier has an 0-2-1 record. They lost 4-2 to Illinois Dec. 17 in their winter league opener, played to a 6-6 draw Jan. 6 at Springfield and dropped a 6-4 decision to the Demize at the Sports Plex Jan. 15.
Fusion is 0-3 after losses to the Fire, 11-3 at home Dec. 4; Rayo, 19-2 at Louisville Dec. 10; and Fire, 10-0 Jan. 7 at Pontoon Beach, Ill.
The Paducah and Mayfield teams meet again Sunday at 2 p.m. at Expoindoor at the Mayfield-Graves County Fairgrounds.
The day before, Paducah plays Saturday at Evansville.
The PASL-Premier team lineup includes 32 teams in six regions. Other divisions are Northwest, Southwest, Rocky Mountain, South Central and Great Lakes. Regional champions compete in an international final.
PASL-Premier bills itself as “the largest international indoor/arena soccer league in the world.” It originated in 1997.
The PASL professional series debuted in 2008.
