GILBERTSVILLE – First District Congressman Ed Whitfield announced his candidacy for a 10th term in a series of announcements Wednesday.
He opened the day with an appearance in his hometown, Hopkinsville, then moved on to Murray, Gilbertsville, Paducah, Henderson and finally Madisonville, where he graduated high school.
At his midday stop at Kentucky Dam Village Main Lodge, Whitfield pledged his ongoing support for the expansion of locks at Kentucky Dam, an ongoing project that is stalled for the second time in two years because of lack of funding.
Whitfield sharply criticized the Obama administration, Democratic leadership and a number of federal agencies.
Among his targets was the Environmental Protection Agency and regulations that, he said, are harmful to the fossil fuel industry in general and Kentucky’s coal industry in particular.
“I want you to know that I fully understand the frustration of the American people,” he said. “We have many challenges facing our country and a lot of the people are really upset about the entire political arena. And I don’t blame them for that.”
