Ella Katherine Reed Phipps, 89, died October 9, at the Georgetown Community Hospital.
She taught Sunday school at Georgetown Baptist Church, where she also a member. She obtained her B.A. and Masters degrees from Georgetown College and later retired from the Fayette County schools system after a career of teaching elementary children.
She is survived by her three children, Donna Ann Phipps Stout, from Winslow Ark., Steven Len Phipps, from Georgetown and James Curtis Phipps, from Midlothian, Va.; three grandchildren, and two great grandchildren,
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Curtis Phipps; her parents, Zinda “June” Adams Reed and Dan Reed; her siblings, Clifford Reed, Avis Phelps and Earsel Penn.
Graveside services were held Wednesday in the Georgetown Cemetery by Pastor Alan B. Redditt and Reverend Richard Weekley.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Georgetown Baptist Church. During the final year of her life, she resided at Windsor Gardens where she loved and was loved by the residents and staff.
