GILBERTSVILLE – Two unrelated crashes Saturday resulted in injuries for three area men and charges for two of the drivers.

On Saturday afternoon at approximately 2 p.m., emergency workers were dispatched to Big Bear Highway in reference to an injury collision with a rollover. According to the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, two males involved in the wreck made several comments about drinking prior to the crash.

Deputy Cory Curtner asked the driver, Justin E. Weathers, 20, to submit to a blood test, which revealed a high level of alcohol. The passenger of the vehicle, Matt Jones, 19, of Calvert City, was flown out by helicopter from the scene.

During the course of the investigation, Deputy Curtner located a bottle of alcohol that was almost empty. He also located a silver foil on the ground beside the vehicle that appeared to be used to smoke marijuana. It did appear to have some substance of marijuana still in it.

After being released from the hospital Weathers 20, of Benton, was arrested and charged with assault 1st degree, operating a motor vehicle under the influence, possession of open alcoholic beverage container in vehicle, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Responders were called out later that night to a collision on the Purchase Parkway near the Interstate 24 interchange around 7 p.m. According to reports, April Williams, 30, of Calvert City, was traveling southbound on the Parkway. Williams drove into an unlit trailer being towed by Scott Watson’s S-10 pickup.

Watson’s vehicle overturned, ejecting him from his truck. Watson, 49, was initially transported to Marshall County Hospital, but later transported to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn.

Responders were forced to close the Parkway at Highway 62 for nearly two hours.

Williams was later cited for operating on a suspended or revoked license.
