DRAFFENVILLE – Marshall County jumped on visiting Paducah Tilghman with two quick second-half goals, then added a third on the way to a 3-0 victory Saturday afternoon, their fourth consecutive win.

Zach Redden scored the last two goals for the Marshals after Peter Northcutt put the Marshals ahead 1-0 in the first minute of play after intermission.

Northcutt took a pass from the left side of the box from Nathan Solomon and directed the ball into the net past the Tilghman goalkeeper.

Minutes later, Northcutt and Redden passed the ball back and forth as they attacked the Tilghman goal, with Redden scoring to make it 2-1.

Redden added the final goal midway in the period in an unassisted attack.

The win lifted coach Andy Pagel’s Marshals, 7-1-2, into first play over Tilghman, 7-4-1, in Region 1 standings. Marshall County was 5-1-0 in District 2 play.

The Marshals have a 9-2-2 overall record.

The winning streak followed a five-game stretch in which the Marshals won one, lost two and tied two. They snapped the skid Sept. 15 against Graves County.

Last week, they built on the success with a 1-0 win at Fort Campbell on Tuesday and a hard-fought 5-2 home win over Hopkinsville Thursday.

A pair of district games were on tap to start this week’s action, Monday against Murray and tonight in a boys-girls double-header against Mayfield. Tonight’s game will include a ceremony formally naming the soccer stadium in honor of Richard and Malinda Colburn.

Another district encounter is on tap Thursday at Calloway County and Owensboro visits Colburn Stadium for a Saturday game.

n The Lady Marshals won a Tuesday encounter against Graves County by a 3-0 score and dropped a 2-1 decision to Central Hardin in the Elizabethtown Showcase Saturday.

After today’s encounter with Mayfield, coach Michael Boone’s team has another key District 2 meeting with top-rated Murray, 6-0-0 in district play, at home on Thursday.

The team then travels east for a two-game road trip with games at North Oldham on Friday and against DuPont Manual in Louisville Saturday afternoon.
