DRAFFENVILLE – Marshall County’s Lady Marshals soccer team suffered a pair of setbacks last week, losing Tuesday at district rival Murray and Saturday to visiting Ohio County.

The team, which won a district encounter against Calloway County on Sept. 8, slipped to 3-5-5.

The Lady Marshals scored early to take a 1-0 lead over Ohio County, but the visitors tied it shortly afterward on a penalty kick.

Ohio County then went up 3-1 in the second half.

“We had the ball in their half the majority of the last 15 minutes, but could not score again to tie it up,” coach Michael Boone said.

A shot by Tory Fehrenbacher in the final minutes of the game glanced off the cross bar.

At Murray, the Lady Marshals started strong but faltered.

“We played very well in the first 10 minutes or so and kept the ball from them,” Boone said. “We had a lapse or two and in the next 10 minutes and we are down 2-0.”

Marshall County got a goal from Fehrenbacher midway in the second half, with an assist to her sister, Toni.

“We had a couple of opportunities after that to tie it up including a questionable offsides call where the ball ended up in the back of the net,” Boone said.

He credited the work of goalkeeper Savana Smothers and a goal line save by Kheeli Ferrell that kept the score at 2-1 until Murray added another goal with about seven minutes to go.

The outcome keeps the Lady Marshals in third place in district standings.
