DRAFFENVILLE Cameron Brown and Joe Scholl have been playing golf together since they were in elementary school.
They decided to take their competition to the next level and attend the same college.
Brown and Scholl signed letters of intent to play golf at Rend Lake College in central Illinois on Wednesday.
Both players are members of Marshall County’s 2007 and 2008 championship teams.
Brown boasts a 37.9 average for the season and his friend and competition, Scholl, has a 38.6 season average.
They both earned a 32 point low round for the season and are about as equally matched as any two players could be.
“I can beat him one day and then he comes back and gets me the next,” Scholl said.
“It just depends on who is having the best day. We’ve been competing against each other for as long as I can remember.”
They have a mutual friend who attended Rend Lake college on a golf scholarship and recommended the program.
Brown and Scholl will be receiving books and tuition to play at the two-year school.
The duo plan to share an apartment and push each other so they can continue to improve their game.
Said Brown, “I think its really cool that we will get to play golf together in college. We grew up together and we’ve been battling on the golf course since we were little. We will help each other get to the next level.”
