DRAFFENVILLE– The Marshals ended their regular season with a 23-3-0 record that includes two marks of perfection thus far.

Marshall County baseball is undefeated this year in both district and regional play.

The squad boasts a 6-0 district mark and a 14-0 regional record.

The Marshals have a huge amount of depth all around and rotate pitching duties on a regular basis.

There is always a fresh arm or a different pitching style in the bull pen ready for action at a moment’s notice.

The team continues to swing hot bats and through 25 games the squad, as a whole, posts a .339 batting average.

The Marshals have smacked 20 home runs so far this season.

Brantley Barrett, Tyler Johnson and Daniel Riley are the home run kings with five apiece for Barrett and Johnson and four for Riley.

The Marshals have had moments this season when they lived, instead of died, by the big inning.

They are making some errors but the team is hitting and scoring enough to make up the difference.

MCHS head coach Don Bock said he is concerned about errors committed by his players.

“We are making too many mistakes,” Bock said.

“Our bats have been making up for our errors and then some, but one day mistakes could get the best of us.”

The Marshals have added three wins to their record in the last seven days. They beat St. Mary 9-5 Tuesday.

Friday night an upset- minded Paducah Tilghman pulled ahead of the Marshals and took the lead for a time.

Marshall County kept a cool head and lived by the big inning again, winning the game 9-7.

Mayfield visited Orangeland Saturday and were handed a 13-3 fifth inning loss when the mercy rule ended the game.

Marshall County met Community Christian in the first round of the 4th District Tournament Monday night in Murray. The results were unavailable as of presstime.

The winner of the MCHS/ Community Christian game will face the winner of the Murray/Calloway game for the district championship Tuesday, May 19 in Murray at 5 p.m.
