MCHS hosts Region One track meet
Marshals sending
several athletes
to the state meet
in Louisville May

DRAFFENVILLEThe Region one AAA track and field meet was held at MCHS Saturday.
The Lady Marshals finished third out of eight teams while the men’s squad finished seventh out of eight teams.
The top two finishers, for every event, at each of the seven regional meets, earns a trip to the state meet.
In addition the next ten best marks, from each event, from all of the regional meets, will qualify for state.
This is a change from last year when only the next four best times/marks qualified.
There will be 24 competitors for each event at this year’s state tournament.
The Marshals had a strong showing at this year’s regional event.
Josh Madding won the long jump event with a jump of 21’ 11”.
Madding is ranked number one in the state going into the championship meet.
Sam Devore took second place in both the 110-meter and 300 meter hurdles.
C.J. Carter made a six foot high jump which qualified him for the state meet.
The Lady Marshals’ Brittany Martin won the 100 meter girls hurdles when she dug deep and edged out Henderson County’s Jessica Crafton by a thousandth of a second.
Teammate Lauren Miller took the second place spot in the 300 meter hurdles.
Krista Spiceland won second place honors in the girl’s triple jump, recording a mark of 32’ 3.25”.
Melanie McKendree won silver in the girls 800 meter run.
Hannah Ellis got an at-large bid for the girls high jump event and Katie Darnall, who finished third at the regional event, got a bid as well.
Olivia Thomas and Terra Spiker qualified in the girls discus event and Lena Bohannon got an at-large bid for the shot put event.
The Marshall County relay teams had respectable performances but did not finish in the top two for the events.
The girls 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams got at large bids and will be competing at the state tournament.
The 4x100 team members are Brittany Martin, Leslie Hood, Lauren Miller and Hannah Ellis.
The 4x200 team is Martin, Hood, Miller, and Tory Fehrenbacher.
Marshall County is sending 13 athletes to compete in the state meet which will be held at the University of Louisville.
Marshall County is scheduled to compete Saturday May 23 beginning at 4 p.m.
