Marshall County failed to qualify any swimmers for the state meet.

MCHS head coach Trina Merrick said the team might have fared better had the layout of the event not been changed due to weather. Usually. the regional consists of preliminary and final heats in each event, but the meet was condensed to one day because of weather, leaving a smaller window to qualify.

Still, with an ever-growing roster, Merrick said the season was a success and next year looks even better.

“For what we thought was going to be a building year, I thought we looked really good,” Merrick said. “That’s exciting to see that we have young people in the relays and we’re not losing many swimmers off those relays.”

With the team still lacking a pool to call home, Merrick said the search for land and financial help for an MCHS facility continues.

“Once regionals are over, I start that path toward a pool,” Merrick said. “This time, I have a couple of leads. We still know that if we had a facility that we’d be so much better off.”
