Freshmen Marshals play well in home tournament

A pair of Marshall County freshman boys basketball teams played well in Marshall’s freshman tournament Saturday.
The “A” Marshals won three of four games, while the “B” team recorded a pair of victories.
The “A” team opened play with a 45-26 win over St. Mary, taking a 22-11 halftime lead and expanding the rest of the way.

The “A” Marshals the faced Obion County and had little trouble in a 50-25 victory.

Against Graves County, the first Marshall team broke open what was a close game early and ended with a 56 37 win.
Scoring: Clark 11, Slack 21, Williams 5, Portis 8, Kelley 1, Atkinson 9, Easton Edwards 1
In their final game, the “A” Marshals trailed Henderson County by two at halftime and couldn’t mount a comeback in a 60-49 loss.
Scoring: Clark 15, Slack 12, Wiseman 6, Williams 3, Portis 6, Kelley 3, Atkinson 4.
The “B” team started with a back-and-forth contest against St. Mary. MCHS led 13-4 after the first quarter but trailed 19-18 at halftime and 25-23 after the third quarter before a 16-8 run gave the Marshals a 39-33 win.

The “B” Marshals won their only other contest of the day, winning 49-44 in another squeaker against Obion County.
