OWENSBORO After two blowout wins, the Lady Marshals had their first tough match of the season.
MCHS opened its season with a 7-0 win over Mayfield on Thursday, then had back-to-back matches against Apollo and Daviess County on Saturday. The Lady Marshals opened the day with an 8-0 stomping of Apollo before tying Daviess County 1-1.
Daviess scored 12 minutes into the first half, and Margaret Thomas tied the score four minutes later on an assist from Amy Erwin.

DRAFFENVILLE The Lady Marshals didn’t bust out of the gate in Thursday’s season-opener, only scoring one goal in the first half. The second half was a different story as MCHS scored six times against a tired Mayfield squad that was playing its third game of the week.
“We had a hard time getting started,” MCHS head coach Michael Boone said. “I wasn’t worried. We were holding on to the ball too long, and things just weren’t clicking right away. Mayfield had a good first half, but we’re more fit right now, so we were able to take it to them in the second half.”
Regardless of the level of competition, Boone said it was important for his players to get the first game of the season under their belts, especially for some players that haven’t seen a lot of varsity action in their careers.
“We have six games counting the four at the Bluegrass Games and the two scrimmages, so we have an idea already,” Boone said. “But we were able to establish a starting lineup that we’ll probably run with.”
