DRAFFENVILLE At the start of the 2008 season, Marshall County baseball coach Don Bock said he expected the Marshals to utilize “small ball” on offense. While they may do so later in the year, it’s been the long ball that’s paved the way to wins so far this season.
On the mound, however, is where the Marshals have been the most impressive so far. Last week, MCHS won two games at home and two Saturday in the Warren East Kickoff Classic, allowing a total of three runs in four wins.
Monday, the Marshals had no trouble with Lone Oak, winning 6-1.
The Purple Flash had a hit in each inning but were unable to capitalize with a run until the sixth. The Marshals bashed their way to the win with a three-run homerun by Cody Forsythe in the second inning and a two-run shot by Daniel Riley, his third in four games, in the fourth.
Riley also did the work for MCHS on the mound, pitching six innings.
Last Tuesday, MCHS defeated another 1st Region foe, Carlisle County, by a 6-0 score. Riley had a 3-run homer in that game, and Seth Waldrop struck out seven Comet batters in six innings of work.

BOWLING GREEN MCHS defeated Warren East and Owen County each by scores of 8-1 Saturday. Riley smacked a 3-run shot, and Brantley Barrett drove in three runs against Warren East, and Forsythe shut down the host’s bats, striking out five in seven innings of shutout pitching.
No Marshal went deep against Owen County, but Waldrop struck out six and allowed only one run in five innings of work.
MCHS hosted Hickman County on Tuesday. Results were unavailable at press time. On the schedule this week for MCHS is a game Thursday at Lone Oak, at home Monday against Reidland and next Tuesday at Livingston Central.
