Key district game Thursday against Calloway County

DRAFFENVILLE – Before having a week off to prepare for a return match against 4th District foe Calloway County, the Lady Marshals took two from Graves County and one from Murray.

In the first inning Thursday, Anna Maziarka singled and later scored on an Allee Moore groundout. That was all the scoring MCHS needed as Randi Butler pitched a complete game and struck out eight Lady Tiger batters.

Last Tuesday, MCHS swept a doubleheader from Graves County 4-0 and 7-2.

Thursday, MCHS will host the Lady Lakers and look to make a play for the district’s top tournament seed after losing two weeks ago at Calloway.
“Going into Murray, we really tried to stress the importance of winning district games so we can have a bye in the district tournament,” MCHS head coach Jennifer Burnham said.

The problem for the Lady Marshals right now, Burnham said, is consistent effort.

“We don’t set our own bar,” Burnham said. “We play up or down to our competition. They’ll have to figure that out before the end of the season.”

MCHS has potential for success in the postseason, Burnham said, adding that a lack of experience is still a bit of a problem.

“We have high expectations,” Burnham said. “We have a young team, and sometimes I don’t know if they have expectations going into a game – they’re just there to play. They don’t have experience to draw on. Hopefully, they get that soon so we can mentally approach the postseason like we need to.”
