MURRAY –Murray was the place to be for the Marshals last week. Four of Marshall County’s last five baseball games were played there, all of them wins – 6-4 Monday at Calloway County, 10-6 over Lone Oak and 6-1 over Lexington Lafayette at Calloway’s Twilight Twinbill on Friday and 13-1 last Tuesday at Murray High.

The Marshals also notched a 15-2 win Thursday at Paducah Tilghman.

MCHS hosts Calloway County on Tuesday, and with a win, the Marshals would capture the 4th District Championship, a bye into the district tournament final and a bid into the 1st Region Tournament.

Temperatures dipped into the low 40s Monday at Calloway, but the Marshals had just enough heat in their bats and on the mound to top the Lakers.

MCHS scored four runs in the top of the first after consecutive hits by Gerick Sullivan (single, run), Tyler O’Daniel (double, run), Tyler Johnson (RBI double, run), Brantley Barrett (RBI double, run) and Cameron Kimball (two-run single).

Seth Waldrop pitched into the fifth inning, striking out four Calloway batters, allowing four runs and leaving the tying run on base when he was replaced.

Johnson took the mound and allowed only two baserunners the rest of the way – one on a fielder’s choice and one by a walk, which was wiped away by a double play in the bottom of the seventh.

The Marshals’ defense continued to play strong, turning two double plays in the game and committing only one error in the contest.
