Lady Marshals win Border Wars

Tournament victory comes on heels of district loss at Calloway County

MARTIN, Tenn. – The first half of Marshall County’s softball season has been highlighted by flashes of brilliance amidst a handful of steps backward. That trend continued last week with a 1-0 nailbiting win over Lone Oak, a 1-0 loss at 4th District rival Calloway County and a tournament championship in Martin Westview’s Border Wars.

On Saturday, MCHS topped Camden, Tenn. (4-3), Obion County Central (4-1) and host Westview (1-0), which defeated the Lady Marshals last weekend in Marshall County’s Sluggfest. MCHS also lost 2-1 to Columbia (Tenn.) Academy.

Sunday, the Lady Marshals survived a six-run sixth inning by Gibson County in an 8-7 victory before topping Obion 6-1 in the championship game.

Lady Marshal pitcher Randi Butler was named Most Valuable Player of the tournament and was joined on the all-tournament team by Jordan Gilland, Allee Moore and Hannah Barrett.
