Marshals take fourth, Lady Marshals fifth at
Invitational of the South

DRAFFENVILLE – Marshall County hosted the annual Invitational of the South track meet Saturday, with the Marshals finishing fourth overall and the Lady Marshals fifth.

Marshall’s boys finished with 60 points, just two ahead of fifth-place Owensboro (58). Paducah Tilghman won the boys’ title (130), followed by Carbondale, Ill. and Henderson County, both of which scored 89 points.

Leading the way for the Marshals was Brandon Walker. The defending state high jump champion won that event Saturday with a finals jump of 6 feet, 2 inches. Walker also won the long jump with an effort of 20-06.

Other Marshal results include the following:
200-meter dash: Ryan MacGillis, 10th (25.12 seconds);

1600-meter run (freshmen): Jake Devore, seventh (5:54.38);

110-meter hurdles: Sam Devore, second (:17.55);

300-meter hurdles: Sam Devore, third (:43.89); Mitchel Stelter, eighth (:48.43);

4x100-meter relay: MCHS, seventh (:47.47); MCHS “B” 12th (:52.53);

4x200-meter relay: MCHS, seventh (1:39.93);

4x400-meter relay (freshmen): MCHS, second (4:12.61);

Pole vault: Andrew Johnston, second (12-00);
Triple jump: Matt Shanklin, 11th (36-11.25); Ross Lampert, 12th (36-09.75);

Shot put: Andrew Lowery, 10th (36-08.50);

Discus: Kris Sauders, sixth (112-05).

The Lady Marshals were one point better than Harrisburg, Ill., for fifth place with 55 points. Owensboro scored 125 points for the win, followed by Carbondale (116), Fulton County (74) and Fort Campbell (72).

Tory Fehrenbacher had the best individual finish of the day for the Lady Marshals, finishing second in the 400-meter run (1:03.83).

200-meter dash: Jenna Goins, 23rd (:33.21);

1600-meter run (freshmen): Kinsey Bailey, ninth (6:56.45);

1600-meter run (varsity): Anna Downey, 11th (6:36.61);

100-meter hurdles: Brittany Martin, fourth (:18.61); Lesley Hood, sixth (:19.28);

300-meter hurdles: Lauren Miller, third (:54.57); Krista Spiceland, fourth (:55.52);

4x100-meter relay: MCHS, fourth (:55.53);

4x200-meter relay: MCHS, second (1:56.09);

Pole vault: Katie Darnall, third (7-06);

Long jump: Brittany Martin, 14th (13-03);

Triple jump: Lauren Miller, fifth (29-04); Michaela Hunt, 10th (26-06);

Shot put: Krista Couch, 18th (21-11.50);

Discus: Terra Spiker, fourth (93-02).

MCHS is scheduled to compete Thursday in an all-comers meet at Murray State University and Saturday at the Bulldog Invitational at the University of Louisville.
