DRAFFENVILLE – The Lady Marshals hosted their Slugfest Tournament this weekend despite the rainy weather. The team went into the fast pitch softball tournament having played only two games so far this season due to rain.

The Lady Marshals faced Cobden Il., who came to the tournament with a 19-2 record in pre-tournament pool play defeating them 2-1.

Rain on Friday cut the day’s games back to five and prompted a reformatting of the tournament. Nineteen games were played on Saturday.

The Lady Marshals defeated five teams before succumbing to Butler County in 0-4 loss.

Marshall County head coach Jennifer Burnham said she was pleased with the girls’ performance. “We beat Cobden and they have played 22 games so far this year,” Burnham said. “They came with a 19-2 record and now they are 19-3. They’re a good ball club.”

The Marshals finished the tournament with five wins and one loss giving them a 6-2 record for the season.
They face Calloway County (6-4) April 16 for a game on the home field.

The Lady Marshals are currently ranked fourth out of 16 teams in the first region according to the Riherds Scoreboard.
