MCHS names coach

Alabama JC coach
to take helm of
Lady Marshals

DRAFFENVILLE– Marshall County High School has announced Joseph Simmons as the new girls basketball coach. Coach Simmons has been assistant boy’s basketball coach at Wallace State Community College in Hanceville, Ala., for the past four years under Head Coach Allen Sharpe. The Wallace State men’s team advanced to its first ever National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Championship Tournament and finished fifth in the nation after finishing their regular season with a 32-5 record.

Simmons second year at Wallace State saw the Lions finish with a 32-1 record and number one ranking in the final regular season NJCAA poll.

Wallace State’s Head Coach Allen Sharpe will also be leaving the program for the head coaching position at the University of Arkansas at Monticello.

Coach Simmons is a native of Lake City, Arkansas where he graduated from Riverside High School. He received an Associate’s Degree in 2000 from Crowley’s Ridge College and his Bachelor’s Degree from Arkansas State University in 2004. He has a Master’s Degree in Sports Management from the United States Sports Academy which he completed in 2009.

Before becoming an assistant at Wallace State, Coach Simmons was head boys basketball coach at East Poinsett High School in Lepanto, Ark.
