MARSHALL COUNTY – Jay Nimmo, at the tender age of 8, is already making a name for himself in the world of junior golf.

Jay has already competed in eight tournaments this summer, four of which were Pepsi Tour events where he won all four in the 8 and under division. The other four were US Kids tournaments and in Kingsport, Tennessee Jay won the seven and under age group qualifying him for the US Kids World Championships at Pinehurst Golf Course in North Carolina August 5th through 8th.

At a Pepsi Tour event on June 29th, playing at the Kenny Perry Country Creek Golf Course in Frankfort, Jay just happened to be on the putting green at the same time as PGA player Kenny Perry was practicing. Perry posed for a picture with Jay and then Jay proceeded to win the 8 and under division.

It’s quite a thrill for an eight-year old golfer to meet a PGA player, but then Jay’s aspirations are to be an NBA basketball player. When he’s not playing basketball or on the golf course you’ll find him on the baseball diamond playing another sport he loves.

Jay’s parents are Annette and Rickie Nimmo and they have been taking him to the golf course with them since he was a baby. “Jay rode around in the golf cart with us in his car seat while we played,” said Annette. “He has been playing golf since he could walk.”

Jay will enter the second grade at Jonathan Elementary School in August but until then he’s got a lot of golf left to play.
