CALLOWAY CO.In basketball, one player does not make a team, but that’s just what it felt like when the Lady Marshals lost to District rival Calloway County on Saturday. The Lakers Averee Fields scored 34 of the Lakers final 50 point total in their win over the Lady Marshals and also brought down 15 rebounds on the night.
Calloway took the lead at the beginning of the first quarter 4-0 before the Lady Marshals got on the board with two free throws from Lena Bohannon. Trailing most of the first quarter the Lady Marshals went up by one, 8-7 and a three by Kelsey Lawson put the Marshals up 11-7 at the end of the first.
The defensive battle continued throughout the second quarter with the two teams tying twice. The Lady Marshals were down by four, 20-16 at the half.
Calloway’s Fields was hard to stop in the second half of the game. The third quarter ended on a Fields’ shot at the buzzer extending Calloway’s lead 38-24.
Calloway extended their lead over Marshall County in the fourth quarter, winning by 15 with a final score of 50-35.
With a record of 7-4, the Lady Marshals will take to the court again today against region rival Lone Oak at Lone Oak High School. Marshall County celebrates basketball homecoming on Friday and will play Community Christian Academy.
