DRAFFENVILLE– Marshall County’s boy’s basketball team will take a flawless district record of 6-0 into the 4th District Tournament at Calloway County next week after beating the Lakers Friday at Reed Conder Gymnasium.

Chase York got the scoring started in the first quarter with two points. Both teams were tied up several times in the quarter with Calloway County taking the lead by one over the Marshals at the end of the quarter, 12-11.

Colby Wiseman added a three point basket and two free throws to put the Marshals up 16-15 in the beginning of the second quarter. The Marshals were trailing the Lakers 25-20 but baskets made at the free throw line by Andrew Edwards and Cole Nelson brought them back to within two of Calloway, 26-24. Trailing 28-24 with 20 seconds to go in the half, John Carter was fouled making a field goal and made the free throw to pull the Marshals within one, 28-27. Carter was fouled taking a half court shot at the buzzer and made two of three at the line putting the Marshals in the lead, 29-28 at halftime.

Calloway’s Shawn Thompson hit a three to start the second half for the Lakers. Wiseman adds two free throws to the Marshals total tying things up at 31. A technical foul called against the Laker’s Austin Lilly sent Blake Clark to the line for two. He made both, putting the Marshals in the lead 33-31. Leading 44-41, Carter added one from the three point arc to put the Marshals up by six going into the final quarter of play.

The Marshals lead was cut to two by the Lakers in the fourth quarter. A free throw shooting percentage of 72 percent for the game would benefit the Marshals down the stretch in this contest putting some distance between them and Calloway County in the final minutes of play. The Marshals put this one away by a final score of 65-53.

Stephen Atkinson produced another double-double for the Marshals with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Carter was perfect from the floor making five of five and adding five points from the free throw line to his team high total of 14 points for the game.
