Murray– After losing to the Murray High Lady Tigers earlier this season the Lady Marshals were looking to even things up with the district rivals, taking on the 22-2 Lady Tigers at Tiger Gymnasium Saturday.

The Lady Tigers were first on the scoreboard with a three. After tying it up at three and again at five, the Lady Marshals went up 7-5 and never relinquished the lead again until the fourth quarter. The first quarter ended with the Lady Marshals up by four, 13-9.

Both teams traded baskets back and forth in the second quarter after the Lady Marshals went up by 10 (21-11) over the Lady Tigers. The Lady Marshals maintained the 10 point lead until near the end of the second quarter when a Mariah McKenty jump shot extended the lead to 12, 31-19.

A three by Janssen Starks of Murray closed the lead to 31-25 at the beginning of the third quarter. Two more Lady Tiger field goals and another three from Starks and the Lady Tigers were trailing by just two points, 35-33. Michaela Hunt was fouled making a field goal, missed both free throws, but a rebound and putback by Margaret Thomas extended their lead again, 39-33, to end the third quarter.

Three minutes into the fourth quarter and the lead was back to just two over the Lady Tigers, 41-39. With two minutes to play it was a one point ballgame with the Lady Marshals on top 47-46. Murray picked off a pass, Sarah Crouch was fouled making both at the line and the Lady Tigers took a 48-47 lead for the first time since early in the first quarter. Thomas is fouled by Starks and made one of two at the line to tie things up at 48. With 27 seconds to play a shot by Lawson and put-back by Hunt were both no good and the game goes into overtime.

The opening tip in overtime went to the Lady Marshals. Fehrenbacher made her first field goal of the night to put the Lady Marshals up 50-48. A Bohannon field goal and put-back by Thomas extended the Lady Marshals lead to 54-48. The Lady Marshals were up 57-53 with 48 seconds to go in overtime. Despite fouling twice in the final seconds while the Lady Tigers were going for threes the Lady Marshals pulled out the victory in overtime by a final score of 64-59.

Hunt led the Lady Marshals in scoring with 19, followed by Thomas with 18 and both players pulled down nine rebounds on the night.

The Lady Marshals will take their 15-6 record to Community Christian Academy tonight to play the Lady Warriors and even the score from their previous loss on Jan. 9 when CCA beat them at home by a score of 56-44.
