Lady Marshals falter
only once at Ballard

DRAFFENVILLE The Lady Marshals kicked off their busy holiday break in the Lady Bomber Shootout at Ballard County High School. In their first game of the tournament they faced the Todd County Lady Rebels.
After a 5-5 tie, Marshall County wasted no time extending the lead to 17-6. Good rebounding and several steals extended the Marshall lead to 21-6 at the end of the first quarter. Good inside play by Lena Bohannon and a steal by Tory Fehrenbacher extended the lead to 30-9. Coach Howard Beth was able to go to his bench early in the game and give several players some playing time. The Lady Marshal’s lead at half was 34-15 and that lead was extended to 20 at the end of the third quarter 45-25.
The Lady Marshal’s held Todd County to only four more points in the fourth winning by 30 points, 59-29. Margaret Thomas lead the scoring with 11 points followed by three other Lady Marshal’s in double digits with 10 points including Fehrenbacher, Bohannon and Michaela Hunt. Thirteen Lady Marshals put points on the board in this contest.
The Lady Marshals would face the Hart County Lady Raiders in round two of the Bomber Shootout. After a 5-0 lead in the first quarter the Lady Marshals fell behind Hart County and were down 9-15 at the end of the first quarter. Tory Fehrenbacher hit a three in the beginning of the second quarter, followed by five straight points from Kelsey Lawson, closing the gap to 20-17. Another three by Lawson brought them within two, 23-21. Going into the locker room at half the Lady Marshals were trailing 27-23.
Early in the third quarter, Hart County would have their biggest lead of the game, 36-24. The Lady Marshal’s rallied with a quick four points closing the gap to 36-29. Marshall County began the fourth quarter down 45-37 and went on to lose to Hart County 57-43. Kelsey Lawson led the scoring with 10, followed by Margaret Thomas’s nine points, Lena Bohannon, eight points and Kaylin Goins adding seven.
Playing later that day against Christian County the Lady Marshals had no problem in this game beating the Lady Colonel’s by 21 points, 50-29.
On Wednesday in the fifth place match the Lady Marshals played the Logan County Lady Cougars with both teams bringing a tournament record of 2-1 into the game. Marshall County went ahead early in this contest and never lost the lead, ahead at the end of the first quarter 19-4 and leading at half 37-24.
The Lady Marshals extended their lead by 25 over Logan County at the end of the third quarter. Midway through the fourth quarter the Marshals had their biggest lead of the game by 30.
Playing good solid defense and with good team chemistry Marshall County’s final score over Logan County was 80-47. Lena Bohannon had a great game scoring 21 points with 13 rebounds. Tory Fehrenbacher and Kelsey Lawson were also in double figures both with 13 points. The Lady Marshals record now stands at 7-3 and they will be in action again on January 2nd when they play the Lady Lakers at Calloway County High School.
