DRAFFENVILLE – Visiting Reidland never found their footing during the Lady Marshal’s soccer scrimmage Thursday. Marshall put the game away with time to spare in the first half, notching the tenth and final goal at the 33:31 minute mark, invoking the Kentucky High School Athletic Association mercy rule.

Margaret Thomas used an assist from Ashley Denfip to get the scoring started in the opening six seconds of the contest. Marshall would go on to score four more goals before the first 10 minutes had expired.

Six different Lady Marshals– Thomas, Denfip, Tory Fehrenbacher, Amy Erwin, Mariah McKenty and Michaela Hunt– scored for Marshall in the outing.

Marshall’s 10 goals came from 20 shots. On defense, Marshall smothered the visitors, allowing only one shot, which was saved by keeper Latesha Stevenson.

Thomas led the scoring with a hat trick, while McKenty and Erwin each booted in two goals. Fehrenbacher, Denfip and Hunt each notched a goal.

In junior varsity action, the Lady Marshals had similar success, scoring their tenth goal midway through the second half. Toni Fehrenbacher led the scoring with four goals, notching her first at the 15:36 minute and the game’s final at 25:36.

Marshall County took 18 shots on Reidland’s net. Keeper Peyton Holland had a quiet evening for Marshall with just one Reidland shot at the home net.

Savana Smothers, Keri Gilchrest, Maile Lawton, Haley Copeland, Mariah McKenty and Kailen Adams each scored during the rout.

The girls will next be in action Aug. 18 when they host visiting Ohio County in the regular season opener. The varsity Lady Marshals will be on the road at Mayfield Aug. 20.
