David P. Lesley
Services for David P. Lesley, 52, of Calvert City, were held Tuesday, April 29 at Bethel Pentecostal Church.
The Rev. Jeff Hartman officiated. Filbeck-Cann & King Funeral Home is handling all arrangements.
Lesley died at 10:36 a.m. Sunday, April 27, 2008, at Western Baptist Hospital.
He was an optical lab technician with Doctors Value Vision.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Lesley of Calvert City; two daughters, Amanda Lesley of Draffenville and Rachel Stacy of Calvert City; three sons, Burt Stephens of Calvert City, Jessie Stephens of Fairview, Tenn. and John Lujan of Paducah; his sister, Joyce Mcllravy of Camden, Tenn.; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Duane, Dwight and Steve Lesley.
His parents were Herbert and Marie Lesley.

Ilee Smith
Graveside services for Ilee Smith, 94, of Calvert City, were held Saturday, May 3 at Provine Cemetery.
Lance Cordle officiated, Collier Funeral Home is handling all arrangements.
Mrs. Smith died Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at Calvert City Convalescent Center.
She was a 1933 graduate of the University of Kentucky. She worked as a Food Service Director at several colleges and retired as Food Service Director at Berea College. She was a member of the Calvert City Church of Christ.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Juanita Smith of Calvert City; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, George, Clyde and Earl Smith.
Her parents were Dr. L.E. and Rebecca Smith.

Ricky Gentry
Services for Ricky Dewayne Gentry, 52, of Nashville, were held Saturday, May 3 at Filbeck-Cann & King Funeral Home.
Rev. Mark Gill officiated.
Gentry died Saturday, April 26, 2008, at his residence.
He was a member of Cornerstone Methodist Church in Smyrna, Tenn.
He is survived by his son, Myles Gentry of Smyrna, Tenn.; his father, Marlon Haze of Grand Rivers; his step-mother, Josephine Gentry of Grand Rivers; and his sister, Teresa Weaver of Smithland.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Peggy Hubbard.

John Vargocko
Services for John Vargocko, 83, of Benton, were held Saturday, May 3 at St. Henry’s Catholic Church.
Father Babu Kulathumkal officiated, followed by burial with military rites at St. Henry’s Catholic Church Cemetery.
He was a member of St. Henry’s Catholic Church. He was the past post commander of the Walter Jones VFW in Villa Grove, Ill. He served in World War II in the U.S. Navy. He formerly worked for USI Chemical Plant and retired from the Department of Interior with U.S. Federal Park Service.
He is survived by his wife, Loretta Vargocko of Benton; five daughters, Marcia Morsey of Sandy Valley of Neb., Martha Ryan of Paducah, Marilyn Hatton of Houston, Texas, Sara Vargocko of Palmdale, Calif. and Katie Huffman of Knox, Ind.; his son, Ed Vargocko of Rosenberg, Texas; three step-sons, Phil Vineck of Lansing, Ill., Tim Vineck of Benton and Craig Vineck of Newburgh, Ind.; his sister, Betty Haake of Manhattan, Ill.; two brothers, Joey Varocko of Manhattan, Ill. and Fritz Vargocko of Dwight, Ill.; eleven grandchildren, five step-grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Treva Vargocko.
His parents were John and Anna Vargocko.

Glenda Seay
Services for Glenda JoAnn Seay, 74, of Paducah, were held Saturday, May 3 at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah.
The Rev. Jim Ewing and Dr. Todd Brady officiated, followed by burial at Brooks Memorial Park.
Mrs. Seay died at 2:08 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at Lourdes Hospital.
She was a staff secretary for the Science Department at West Kentucky Community College. She was a member of the Suburban Garden Club and won several awards in local floral shows. She was a member of the McCracken County PTA and served as President of the Brazelton Jr. High School PTA. She was also a member of First Baptist Church of Paducah.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Seay of Paducah; two daughters, Vicky Seay of Paducah and Michele Ritchie of Pryorsburg; her son, Greg Seay of Tampa, Fla.; and one granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Frank Davis.
Her parents were Glenn and Mary Davis.

Mickey Carpenter
Services for Dr. Mickey Ronald Carpenter, 60, of Paris, were held Thursday, May 1 at Huntingdon First United Methodist Church.
Burial followed at Benton Cemetery.
Carpenter died Saturday, April 26, 2008, from a fishing accident.

Carolyn Gillian
Graveside services for Carolyn Wells Gillian, 62, of Benton, were held Sunday, April 27 at Dixon Cemetery.

Mrs. Gillian died at 9:45 a.m. Friday, April 25, 2008, at Salem Springlake Nursing Home.
She was a member of Calvert City United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Larry Gillian of Benton; her daughter, Kristen Dickerson of Burna; her sister, Carmeleta Norvell of Murray; and several grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Dennis Wells.
Her parents were Raymond Owen and Louelle Gillian.

Chester Harper
Services for Chester Harper, 86, of Benton, were held Friday, May 2 at Filbeck-Cann & King Funeral Home.

Harper died at 6:40 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at Lourdes Hospital.
He was a member of Sharpe Missionary Baptist Church. He was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Dearborn, Mich. and Finelanders No. 175.
He is survived by two sisters, Mary Davis and Jean Hawkins both of Benton; two step-sisters, Doris Tiegen and Laverne Jump both of Michigan.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Essie Harper; his sister, Elizabeth Garland; and three brothers, Archie Harper, Charlie Harper and Nolan Harper.
His parents were Elmer Harper and Leah Farley.

Harry Hester, Jr.
Services for Harry H. Hester, Jr., 88, formerly of Marshall County, were held on Sunday, May 4 at Milner and Orr Funeral Home of Paducah.
The Rev. Don Carver officiated, followed by burial in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
Hester died at 12:25 a.m. on Friday, May 2, 2008 at the Superior Care Home. He was a member of the Olivet Baptist Church, owner of Hester’s Spot in the Sun, WWII Air Force Veteran and Civil Air Patrol, where he served as squadron commander.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Berlene Hester of Paducah; one sister, Elaine Kelley of Phoenix, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert, Shirley and Max Hester; and six sisters, Rubye Lowe, Cynthia Huling, Mable Crenshaw, Belle Nelson, Dee Dee Phillips and Willie Cooper.
His parents were Harry and Margaret Hester.

Leonard Gamble
Services for Leonard Gamble, 89, of Benton, were held on Monday, May 5 at Filbeck-Cann and King Funeral Home.
The Rev. Randy McClure officiated, followed by burial in Vanzora Cemetery.
Gamble died at 12:21 p.m. on Friday, May 2, 2008 at Marshall County Hospital. He was a member and deacon at Vanzora Baptist Church, and a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army.
He is survived by five nieces and six nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hilda Gamble; one sister, Bertha Gamble; four brothers, Very, Clanon, Raymond and Homer Gamble; two nieces and one nephew.
His parents were Joe and Cordelia Gamble.

Oma Freeman
Graveside services for Oma Freeman, 85, of Symsonia were conducted Saturday, May 3, at New Sand Hill Baptist Cemetery.
The Rev. Ernest Cox officiated.
Miss Freeman died at 10:05 a.m., April 30 at Marshall County Hospital after a brief illness. She was a 1942 graduate of Calvert City High School. She and her twin sister Ona Freeman Bell, who survives her, worked as “Rosie the Riveters” at Wright and Patterson Fields (now Wright-Patterson Air Force Base) near Dayton, Ohio during WWII. She also worked at the old cigar factory in Benton and at the Magnavox plant in Paducah.
Miss Freeman and her twin were the youngest of 10 children born to Clarance Kuykendall Freeman and Delilah Craig Freeman of the Howard’s Grove community, Marshall County.
She is survived by six nephews, Michael Freeman of Mississippi, Richard Thompson of Tishomingo, Miss., David Thompson of Lone Oak, Craig and Bob Bell of Symsonia and Tom Bell of Carterville, Ill.; eight nieces, Bobbie Foust and Hilda Oakley of Calvert City, Mary Jane Cothran of Gilbertsville, Melba Sue Morse of Grand Rivers, Mary Elizabeth Alcock of Brentwood, Tenn., Harolyn Jenkins of Kevil, Donna Parr of Charleston, Mo. and Mary Helen Freeman.
She was preceded in death by six brothers, Clarence Freeman of Benton, James, Fred and William Freeman, all of Vandale, Ark., Edward Milton Freeman of Brentwood, Tenn. and John Jacob Freeman of Pana, Ill.; two sisters, Carrie Freeman of Vandale, Ark. and Myrtle Thompson of Brookport, Ill.
