MARSHALL COUNTY – County officials recently met with Mediacom representatives to address the continuing flow of complaints being submitted by local residents about unresolved service and billing issues.

In the last meeting of the Marshall County Fiscal Court, county commissioners and County Judge-Executive Mike Miller reported their meeting seemed to fall short of finding any resolution to the problems. “We asked them very pointed questions and vented our frustrations,” Miller said.

But there was no offer of resolution to the complaints, just a phone number and contact information given to county officials to reference in case residents continued to have concerns.

In a letter of correspondence to the court, Mediacom’s Senior Manager of Government Relations Randy Hollis wrote, “Thank you for meeting with us to discuss the concerns our office has with Mediacom’s business practices within Marshall County, including but not limited to our service credit policy in the aftermath of the recent storm, local contact information and Mediacom’s current Better Business Bureau rating. “We appreciate your candor in this matter and, as stated during the meeting, we ask that any complaints or concerns you may receive from a constituent regarding our business be forwarded to either me or Dale Haney. “Our commitment is to address any issues in a timely manner.”

Miller said the county’s hands continue to be “tied,” in reaching resolution for customers due to the nature of de-regulation among cable companies.

Mediacom and West Kentucky Telephone are the only two providers that have applied for a franchise in Marshall County.

While they both were approved, West Kentucky’s service area of Fairdealing and Hardin leaves many other county customers no choice for cable service.

Commissioners say many local residents have given up cable service altogether and switched to Dish and DirecTV service.

Residents who are having difficulties with Mediacom service can contact Hollis at 994-6984 or Dale Haney, at 527-9939 or 703-3403.
