BENTON – The old Marshall County Hospital building is being sold to the highest bidder.

Sealed bids for the facility were taken last month, with the final acceptance date being March 25.

MRBS Development, a newly formed limited liability cooperation, returned the highest offer of $116,500.

While the transaction is not yet complete, the deed is expected to be transferred on or before June 1.

Hospital officials have issued the following statement, “We are excited that the facility on 503 George McClain Drive is being sold,” said Marica Smith, director of public relations and foundation director for the hospital.

“With the sale of the previous facility and the surplus inventory auction sale being held May 9, we will conclude another chapter in the history of Marshall County Hospital.”

But the new owners aren’t ready to celebrate just yet. They say they are holding out until all the ‘i’s’ have been dotted and all the ‘t’s’ have been crossed.

Preliminary deed restrictions on the sale of the property prevents new owners from operating any type of competitive health care establishment.

They also restrict the offering of services such as rehabilitative therapy, OBGYN, cardiac care, and various other medical-related services.

While excitement seems to be in the air, hospital officials and the buyer are both exercising caution at this point, as the contract has not yet been signed, with the deal still being in the final stages of completion.
