CALVERT CITY– Suspected methamphetamine manufacturing landed two Calvert City residents in jail and sent another to the hospital in what authorities believe are unrelated cases last week.

On June 13, detective Don Tidwell, assisting the McCracken County Sheriff’s Department, conducted an investigation which led to the discovery of a meth lab inside a vehicle. Information obtained during the investigation led Tidwell to the Calvert City residence of Joshua J. Knight 30, and Ashley D. Fugate 29. Tidwell was assisted by Calvert City Police officer Robby West.

Investigators discovered drug paraphernalia, digital scales and a large amount of cash. They also found a handgun under the couch cushion where one of the suspects had been sleeping.

Knight was charged with first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, methamphetamine, first-degree possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon. Fugate was charged with trafficking in a controlled substance, methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance, second offense, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

In a separate incident, authorities responded to an explosion at a residence on Crabapple Street Wednesday. Signs of methamphetamine manufacturing were evident in the residence’s basement where the blast is believed to have occurred.

One 19-year old male was transported from the scene with burn injuries to Marshall County Hospital. He was later transferred to another hospital.

No charges have been filed as of presstime.
