MARSHALL COUNTY Marshall County was the focus of a short-lived FBI spotlight last week when officials from the Ohio division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation notified the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department of a potential suspect in the area.
Sheriff Kevin Byars said investigators contacted the department last Tuesday night that an Ohio man, Brian Gambill, could potentially be making his way to relatives in the Marshall County area. Gambill allegedly fled when charged in connection with the robbery of PNC Bank in Heath, Ohio.
However, while reports have surfaced that Gambill did in fact flee to Marshall County, Byars said this is unlikely.
“I think he probably intended to come here,” Byars said, “but I don’t think he ever actually made it here.”
Gambill was apprehended early Wednesday evening in Boston, Ohio, just one day after Marshall County Sheriff’s deputies were contacted.
“Given the time frame we had to work with and where he was actually arrested, it’s just not really possible that he was ever here,” Byars said.
Byars said while only charged with the PNC incident, Gambill is suspected in several other offenses in the area. He is a native of the Portsmith, Ohio.
