BENTON A Calvert City man was arrested over the weekend for assaulting Marshall County Sheriff’s deputies.
According to reports, Joe A. Owen, Jr., 38, of Calvert City, arrived at the Sheriff’s Office Saturday and began beating on the glass front door. When deputy Nathan Maxlow went to inquire, Owen began yelling. Deputy Maxlow advised Owen to lower his voice.
Other deputies came outside because they could hear Owen yelling. Owen advised deputies he was at the Sheriff’s Office to turn himself in. When deputies attempted to detain him, Owen punched deputy Curtner in the face.
According to reports, while the deputies attempted to handcuff Owen, he resisted and continued to punch officers. Sergeant Darryl Carr fell to the ground with the subject while trying to detain him and was taken to Marshall County ER with possible broken bones.
The fight continued even after Owen was detained. Wearing handcuffs, Owen head-butted deputy Curtner. Deputies used a Taser on Owens several times in a attempt to subdue him.
A strong odor of alcohol was also present on Owen’s breath. He was arrested and lodged in the Marshall County Detention Center.
