BENTON At least two theives stole $1712.42 worth of goods from Wal-Mart during the first hours of the new year. The pair targeted electronics and made it out of the building without being noticed.
Benton City Police Officer Willam Treadway responded to the call at 4:54 a.m. Friday morning. According to Treadway’s report, a man and woman had entered the retailer hours earlier and placed a plastic tote in a shopping cart. Surveilence video shows the two moving throughout the store, selecting items to place in the cart.
Nintendo Wii’s, an E-machine notebook computer and an in-dash DVD player were among the items stolen. Treadway’s report stated the two placed the items in the tote.
“They went over to one of the side doors,” said Benton City Police Captain Nicky Knight. “She must have gotten the door open.”
The alarm on the door did not sound throughout the store, allowing the pair to exit without immediately raising suspicion.
Most of the goods stolen are normally locked in cases, Knight said. “Before Christmas, I think they had just been leaving it open.”
Video shows the two leaving in a maroon or burgandy car, possibly a Ford Taurus.
The case is currently under investigation by the Benton Police Department.
