CALVERT CITY The investigation into an alleged methamphetamine ring in Calvert City may be a “lengthy affair” according to Calvert City police officer Robby West, and the pieces are continuing to fall into place.
On Dec. 17, Calvert City officer Nick Spears arrested Kari A. Chumbler, 38, of Calvert City in connection to the investigation sparked from the discovery of a meth lab behind Calvert City Elementary School.
Chumbler was apprehended on charges of facilitation to manufacture methamphetamine, first offense. She was taken to the Marshall County Detention Center, where she was released on a $2,500 bond last Monday.
Chumbler is reportedly the girlfriend of Calvert City employee Lexie Shayne Greer, 38, who was arrested on charges of conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine last month. Greer is alleged to have supplied materials to Detention Center inmates participating in supervised community service in the city.
Shortly thereafter, three inmates, John Cox, Donald Crosier and Jordan Kilgore, were arrested in connection with the crime.
Calvert City resident Glenn Heater, 49, was later arrested for first degree trafficking of a controlled substance and was believed to be involved.
Last week, Heater was officially linked to the crime and additional charges of conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine were handed down. Heater’s bond is set for $50,000 cash.
Greer and all three inmates had previously waived rights to preliminary hearings in favor of having their cases heard by the Grand Jury on Dec. 10. The accused were scheduled to appear in Marshall County Circuit Court last Monday to hear the verdict. All were indicted on the charges.
No future date had been set for those indicted, Heater or Chumbler to appear in court as of press time.
Chumbler’s arrest marked the sixth in connection with the investigation. When asked if further arrests in the case were pending, West said the matter is “on-going.”
