BENTON According to a press release issued by the Marshall County Sheriff’s department, the body of a missing Benton man, 46 year-old Alan Hinton, was discovered in a pond located just off of U.S. Highway 641 North and Foust Lane last Thursday afternoon.
According to Public Information Officer Deputy Dennis Lewis, a local hunter had been in the area when he discovered the body.
The land on which the body was found belongs to the Tennessee Valley Authority and is a wetland area.
The body was sent to Madisonville for autopsy on Friday morning, where the identity of the person was confirmed to be Hinton.
The man had been reported missing by his family, two months prior, on October 17.
The official cause of death is unknown at this time, pending further investigation.
The sheriff’s department, along with the Marshall County Coroner’s Office, Marshall Co. Rescue Squad, and TVA Police investigated the scene and aided in recovering the body.
Detectives say foul play is not suspected.
